Last week my friend Cara and I met up for an evening in London and went to the Infinity Mirror Room exhibition at the Tate Modern museum 🎨 I didn’t realise quite how hard the tickets are to get.. they go on sale every few months and I was in a virtual queue for about 5 hours when they went live a few months ago – first tip is to be prepared and know when they will be released next if you want to visit!
The exhibition is at the Tate Modern on London’s South Bank – It’s free to get in if you just want to look around the museum itself, the tickets for the exhibition were £10 each 🖼
Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist born in 1929, who became popular in New York in the 1960’s. She now lives in Tokyo and has installations around the world 🌎 Kusama is very open about her mental health and says her art has become a way to express herself and the issues she has faced.
Her infinity mirror rooms have become very popular and it’s easy to see why – they are absolutely beautiful and transport you into another world – The installation at the Tate features 2 rooms the Infinity Mirrored Room – Filled with the Brilliance of Life and the Chandelier of Grief, a room which creates the illusion of a boundless universe of rotating crystal chandeliers ✨ alongside these rooms is a short display about Yayoi Kusama’s life which was really interesting and showcased amazing photos of her and her pervious work.
It was really well organised, you could scan an exhibit QR code before you went in so you could follow the information on our own phone as well as on the wall, there weren’t many people allowed in at once and you only had 3 minutes in each room so it didn’t take long to queue … although you had to be quick to get photos! 📸
After the exhibition we grabbed some food on the South Bank from Gamekeeper Uk food truck outside the National Theatre – Their burgers were great if you need something on the go! 🍔 We also had a Square Root London lemonade from the pop up bar next door which was also really nice if you want a soft drink option when you are out 🍋
